Thank You for the Success of The Cape Fall Fest (10/12/09)

The weather held out for us, the soup was great and the camaraderie was even better! I would like to thank a number of people for their help in making the Fest a success. First and foremost is Julia Morrison for chairing our Social Committee and keeping us all on track!
The Ladies of The Cape did a fine job in baking all of the cakes we had for dessert. They are: Marilyn Palmieri, Dorothy Camp, Kathy Mulvehill, Elaine Dupre, Barb Vagedes, Angela Bellm, Sherry McElroy, Julia Morrison, Ann Cousineau, Joyce Bergmark, and especially Rosalie Hutter, who provided us with that fabulous recipe for the Pumpkin Cake.
I would also like to thank all of my helpers who served you during the Fest: Elaine Dupre, Ann Cousineau, Angela Bellm, Phyllis Sammis, Sue LoBalbo, Julia Morrison, Diane Frawley, Sherry McElroy, Kris Boardman, Joyce Edwards, David Bellm, Dorothy Camp, Marilyn Palmieri and Kathy Mulvehill.
I could not have set everything up without the help of: Doug Redfield, David Bellm, and John Morrison or cleaned everything up without the help of Ted Sammis, John Morrison and David Bellm.
I would also sincerely like to thank the HOA Board for providing a tent for us and Ladd Nelson for providing the area with which to put our tent and the two large coolers of beer. Everyones help truly made this event a success!!

Sincerely,
Cindy Redfield, Chairperson of The Cape Fall Fest

I would like to add something to Cindys letter. We all need to extend an extra thanks to Cindy for organizing and putting on a wonderful Fall Fest. Fantastic job Cindy!! Thank you.

Julia Morrison, Chairperson of the Social Committee

The Cape Social Committee (09/17/09)

It has been almost a year since the inception of The Cape Social Committee. We have come a long way since our General Meeting last October when I was given the awesome task to weave the social fiber of The Cape. We began the year by conducting a survey of all Cape HOA members to determine what activities you would like to see happening in the community. Once collected, we analyzed the results and looked for residents who would be interested in chairing these committees and events.

One of the first established was The Cape Wine Tastings, a committee chaired by Anne and Vin Cousineau, Linda and Bill Wadman, Cindy Redfield, Jan Sparks, and Pat Murray. To date, we have had 4 very successful tastings! The next one is scheduled for September 28th at Tangerine Grill on Carolina Beach. You must have reservations to attend these events.

The Progressive Dinners have been quite a success. Mary Jo and Steve Worcester have chaired these events. This group has 24 people attending regularly. Dinners are themed and progress from home to home with appetizers, dinner and dessert. Reservations are required for this event, as attendees participate in hosting and cooking.

Ken Maus has graciously chaired the Kayaking Group. There have been 4 trips ranging from a moon light trip up the Carolina Beach Harbor to a trip to Zeke Island. This is a rather small group. There is lots of room for growth! Ken usually has an extra kayak for anyone who wants to try your hand at this. Beginners are welcome! We dont venture into rough waters anyone can do it. Come join us!!

Jeff and Pat Nicol have worked hard to get a Cape Bowling Team off and running, but havent had enough participation to date. Our survey showed a lot of interest so we know youre out there! Jeff and Pat are still interested, if you are.

Carolyn Dunn has had a wonderful time chairing Cape Night Out. Last Thursday night at Harbor Masters Restaurant was a blast! About 24 people showed up for drinks and conversation, many stayed for dinner. Its a fun, casual way to meet your neighbors. Cape Night Outs are scheduled on Thursday nights, once a month.

Jan Sparks chairs The Cape Book Club. We have been meeting since May, we have read many stimulating books and had some great discussions! We meet the third Tuesday each month, at 7:00 PM.

Christine Watkinson, Rosalie Hutter and Sherry McElroy were last years judges for Holiday House, our annual Christmas Home Decorating Contest. The contest sparked a festive spirit among our neighbors. We will be doing this again so be ready! The winning Holiday House is honored with a handmade sign, designed by our own Bob Clark of Sedgley Drive. He creates beautiful woodwork. The Holiday House sign will be displayed on the winners front lawn every year. Prizes will be awarded! Our judges will be out viewing the night of December 15th so have your lights on!

The Capes Welcome Committee, is chaired by David Bellm and is set up to welcome New Cape Homeowners. So if you are aware of a new homeowner, please let David know. If you have recently moved in and would like additional information or need an explanation on any of the covenants or policies, David will be more than happy to help you out. He is dedicated to making your move into the Cape Community most enjoyable!

The Cape Travelers, chaired by Ed and Kristin Buckley has offered many exciting trips for Cape HOA Members. They sponsored a September trip to Paris and just announced an upcoming trip to Egypt! Check out their website- www.capetravelers.com for further info.

Cindy Redfield chairs our Event Committee. Our two biggest events for 2009 are our Spring Fling, which was held in May and our upcoming Fall Fest, to be held on October 11th from 1-4:00 PM, (the day after our HOA Annual Meeting & Vote). Tickets are on sale now. Ticket sales will stop a week prior to the event, so get your tickets now! Call or see Cindy @ 793-4977 or Julia Morrison @ 799-1951 for tickets.

Our Fall Fest will feature a sampling of three different soups from Michaels Seafood Restaurant including their SEAFOOD CHOWDER which won them the honor of being
The 2009 International Chowder Champion!!!
Our menu also includes: Pumpkin Bisque & Chicken Corn Soup! and to compliment the soups, an assortment of Breads, Dessert and Cider will be offered.

Just bring your ticket, a chair, a smile and a healthy appetite!
Tickets are ONLY $10.00 each! Get Yours Now!!!

Fall Fest will be held under the trees on The Cape Blvd. Our neighbors, the Masonboro Country Club have generously offered us use of an area of their property in front of the old parking lot for the event. We will have the area marked clearly. Attendees should be able to park in the old parking lot the day of the event. Steve Isley, the new Golf Pro is planning to attend! We will be inviting the new sheriff and several additional guests from New Hanover County.

We are planning to make the Spring Fling and Fall Fest annual events. The Spring Fling was quite successful with over 150 in attendance. The Southern Barbecue was an All American Feast and the comradery was grand. Come join us for the Fall Fest!

The Social Committee has worked very hard over the past year. In addition to the chairs of each committee, please take time to thank the entire The Social Committee volunteer staff when you see them

Joyce Edwards- (liaison for the HOA Board)

New members as of August 2009: Ginny Valente and Phyllis Sammis

We hope to start up more groups this year, but we need your help. Information will be available at the Annual Cape General Meeting and at Fall Fest. Look for the posters and the sign-up sheets. We are interested in you and what you want. I personally, have really enjoyed all of the activities and have especially enjoyed making new friends. Chairing a committee is a great way to insure involvement. Joining the committee is a great way to share your ideas.

I want to thank Bill McEwen, who initially served as the Social Committees CHOA board liaison and Joyce Edwards, who currently serves as board liaison, for their continued support. I would like to thank Jeff Nicol for his patience and help in updating our events on the website. Id like to a offer special thanks to Jesse Bowles, our CHOA Property Manager and his staff for reworking the Activities Board and relocating it to the front entrance and for all of his support in helping us out with different things as they come up.

If I have neglected thanking anyone, please know that you are greatly appreciated! Many volunteers have worked long and hard for our community events and activities. If you have yet to be involved, please come join us youre missing the all good stuff! If you are interested in getting involved, you will be welcomed with open arms. Many hands make less work for everyone, but more importantly, we have a lot of fun doing it!

Thank you all. It has been a pleasure working with and for all of you.

Kayaking Club (06/03/09)

I received a dozen responses to the e-mail I sent out in March. It looks like we are all rookies to moderately experienced kayakers interested in fishing, photography and wildlife on shorter trips in calmer waters.

We need to do a "meet & greet" to get the club started off.
How about meeting this Saturday, June 6 at 8:00 am at River Road Park (across from the back gate of Beau Rivage). We can go thru the introductions and paddle over to Shark Tooth Island (it's covered with shark's teeth, a canadian geese couple has a nest there and usually the fishing is good)... It's a short paddle in shallow water.
I'll be there and will probably spend the entire day on the water flounder fishing.
I have an extra beginner's kayak available that I can bring for anyone who wants to try it out. Just let me know - 1st come 1st served.
Thanks
Ken Maus

The Cape Spring Social May 16, 2009 (05/18/09)

From: Cindy Redfield, and the entire Cape Social Committee;
There are so many people that I would like to thank for making our 1st Spring Social a great success, but first and foremost I would like to thank The Cape Homeowners for buying 143 ticketswithout those people we could not have even gone forward with the idea!

Kudos go to all my helpers:
Kathy Messitt and Barb Smith, for helping me clean 24 quarts of strawberries for our Strawberry Shortcake. (...and Megan for help with serving)
Kris Boardman, Pat Urion, Elaine Dupre and Barb Vagedes for taking tickets.
Karen Musser and Anne Cousineau for serving dessert.
Special thanks to Jesse Bowles for securing the street cones during his personal vacation time.
Wayne and Karen Musser and Kevin and Diane Frawley who helped with clean-up and Bob Smith and Wayne Musser for letting us use their trash cans.
I would like to specially thank Julia Morrison for all of her hard work in establishing the Social Committee for The Cape. Without her this would have never come to fruition.

I would also like to let everyone know that we donated our leftover food to Marthas Kitchen, which is a part of the First Baptist Church of Carolina Beach. Every Tuesday evening they serve free dinners to underprivileged individuals and we were very happy to help them out.
